SERVICE OF THE MONTH
OCTOBER 2003

SkyFrames Broadband Services
SkyFrames Broadband Services provide high
performance two-way satellite based broadband connectivity which is especially
appropriate for rural communities or for organisations with sites in remote
locations.
The service is based around a SkyFrames developed
star-topology VSAT network which uses a DVB-S forward link and a proprietary
return link. Forward link data rates to remote sites are between 2 and 72 Mb/s
whilst return link data rates from remote sites are between 16 and 384 kb/s.
New technology being introduced will allow reliable return link data rates from
remote sites to be increased to 2 Mb/s. The network supports all IP transport
protocols including TCP/IP, UDP/IP, unicast and multicast
addressing.
Particularly useful when providing conmnectivity for rural
communities is the ability to connect a wireless data system base station or
EDSL network to the SkyFrames Remote Gateway, allowing the service (and hence
costs) to be shared between many users. The wireless data system can, for
example, be used to provide services to users located up to 13 km from the
Remote Gateway. Increased interest in VoIP, web conferencing and GSM Cellular
Point of Presence is projected to increase revenue growth for
SkyFrames.
